2006 Mitolo "Jester" Cabernet
| McLaren Vale Australia | $19.99 per bottle |
Robert Parker 92 pts
"The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon "Jester" includes 20% dried grapes in the style of Amarone. Purple-colored, it has a fragrant bouquet of black fruits, tar, and violets. This leads to a smooth-textured, layered, dense wine with enough structure to evolve for 4-6 years. It has a long, pure finish and can be enjoyed over the next 15-20 years. It is a superb value in Cabernet Sauvignon. Mitolo, which began operations in 1999, is a partnership of the Mitolo family and winemaker Ben Glaetzer.
"This wine has a beautiful fragrance of cassis, blackberry, mulberry and plum aromas. The palate is rich and robust with excellent concentration, complex fruit and integrated oak. There are loads of dark fruits on offer with hints of earth and mocha. The soft and supple tannins lead in to a long finish." ~Winery Notes

2006 The Wolftrap, Boekenhoutskloof winery
| South Africa | $11.99 per bottle |
When it comes to value wines that deliver, Boekenhoutskloof winemaker Mark Kent seems to have the Midas touch. The 2006 Wolftrap, a blend of 50% Syrah, 48% Mourvedre and 2% Viognier, is an undeniably good buy, a true Southern French style blend. The high percentage of Syrah in the blend leads to a spicy, aromatic nose of the wine, supported by perfume from the Viognier component. The Mourvedre adds structure and weight. Ripe and upfront, the wine shows focused aromas and flavors of red fruit, peppery spice, soft tannins and a smoky finish. A touch of French oak is obvious on the nose and palate and extends to the lengthy, elegant finish of this wine.

2005 Caparzo Sangiovese
| Montalcino, Italy | $14.99 per bottle |
The "Caparzo" name seems to originate from Ca' Pazzo, as seen in several ancient maps.
The vineyards, cellars and all wine-making equipment were developed towards the end of the 1960s, with progressive adaptation and constant up-dating of both the land and the cellars.
Made exclusively with Sangiovese grapes, Caparzo Sangiovese 2005 is refined for several months in medium oak barrels before being distributed. A fresh and vigorous wine, it combines good body and elegance with an impressive and persistent bouquet, with hints of blackberry and raspberry. Unbelievably good for the money.
